Chapel Hill, NC – June 2020 – Whitsell Innovations’ Recognitions Highlighted at DIA Medical Affairs and Scientific Communication Conference

Employees of Whitsell Innovations (WI), Inc., a full-service medical and scientific writing company headquartered in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, made notable contributions to the 2020 Drug Information Association’s (DIA) Medical Affairs and Scientific Communications (MASC) Forum.

Robin Whitsell, founder and president of WI, received the 2020 Excellence in Service Award for her outstanding contribution to the advancement of DIA’s mission.

“Robin has been an active and dedicated member of the DIA community, serving most recently as a speaker and chair for DIA’s Medical Affairs and Scientific Communications Forum and a speaker at the DIA Global Annual Meeting. We thank her for her commitment to DIA’s mission, and we are pleased to congratulate her as one of our 2020 Excellence in Service Award Recipients,” said Barbara Lopez Kunz, Global Chief Executive, DIA.

“I am honored and humbled by this recognition from my peers,” Ms Whitsell said.

An active and engaged member of the medical writing community, Ms Whitsell has presented at the annual DIA Global, DIA MASC, CBI, and American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) meetings. She served on DIA’s Medical Writing Competency Model Committee, and is a faculty member for DIA’s global education programs.

Additional notable contributions to the DIA MASC Forum included WI Senior Writer & Manager Ann Winter-Vann, PhD and Senior Writer & Associate Manager Lisa Ambrosini Vadola, PhD. As co-chair for the planning committee, Dr Winter-Vann helped develop the meeting program. “WI is tremendously supportive of these types of organizations,” Dr Winter-Vann stated. “WI staff is encouraged to present and share their expertise with other professionals.”

As chair for the session “It’s All Part of the Plan: Preparation and Planning for a Series of Submissions,” Dr Winter-Vann identified speakers and provided content direction. She also moderated the virtual discussion on assessing challenges, best practices, and strategies for regulatory submissions.

Lisa Ambrosini Vadola, PhD, Senior Writer & Associate Manager at WI, identified speakers, developed content, and chaired the session entitled “Breakthrough Designation and Expedited Approvals.” Exploring FDA approval pathways, Dr Vadola and colleagues reviewed the FDA’s expedited Breakthrough Therapy Designation for the treatment of serious medical conditions that represent an unmet need.
