Robin Whitsell, President and Founder of Whitsell Innovations (WI), Inc., a certified woman-owned full-service medical and scientific writing company headquartered in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, visited with Postdoctoral and Doctoral scholars in life sciences at UNC after her presentation entitled “Scope of Career Opportunities of Medical Communications.”
“I was able to witness a very informative and passionate presentation and was fully engaged, although my background is not in the disciplines Ms. Whitsell was addressing,” says Judson Fraley, OPA Program Coordinator, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs. “The scholars present were intrigued and asked questions to which an answer was always provided. The internship seems like a great opportunity and one of a kind. I look forward to working with Whitsell Innovations again next year.”
Ms. Whitsell addressed medical writing for pharmaceutical, biotech, and device companies including the documentation required for submissions to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) during the pre-clinical and clinical development process. In addition, Ms. Whitsell discussed how industry clients use medical writers to share clinical data in manuscripts, training materials, and presentations.

Interacting with UNC postdoctoral scholars allows us to understand the perception of medical and scientific writing and encourage talented individuals to explore it as a potential career option.”
